Community United Church of Christ

--- Religious Organizations, Publications, Resources
All peaceful persons are welcome here to participate in worship as well as leadership of the congregation. Our 150 year tradition of welcome dates back to the time that attorney A. Lincoln presented his anti-slavery lectures in our church when he was not welcome to do so by any other church in the then fledgling town of West Urbana. Committed couples wishing to formalize their relationship are invited to the same service of pre-union counseling and guidance as are heterosexual couples. Students at U of I and Parkland are embraced in the College group without regard to gender or sexual identity (you may have seen our table on quad day). Children of non-traditional families are involved without discrimination in our children's education program, and their families celebrated through baptisms and birthdays. A GLBT social group gets together more or less monthly (call our church office and ask who is the in charge person for the upcoming event). Our congregation participates actively as memers of The Center for Progressive Christianity ( see www.TCPC.org ). As a progressive Christian congregation, we like to say of ourselves that our faith is over 2000 years old, our thinking is not. We hope that when you join with us, both your spirt and your intellect will be engaged. See our webpage for hours of worship and Christian education.
